Alan Rinehart will be performing a program of music from Spain and South America in the tradition of concert performances by the great Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia featuring some of the best loved pieces in the guitar repertoire.
Alan has made many contributions to the guitar world as a performer, teacher, and music editor. Completing studies at Western Michigan University and a Professional Music Training Diploma from Vancouver Community College, he studied lute repertoire and technique in London, England at the Early Music Centre and performed at international music festivals in Spain, the United States, Toronto and Quebec and appeared on CBC radio and TV.
He is a co founder of The Vancouver Guitar Quartet, which became a regular part of the Vancouver and Western Canadian music scene from the late 1980s to 2003, with many concert and radio appearances.
He has released two solo CDs and one CD with the Vancouver Guitar Quartet that have received international critical praise.
From 1983 to 2003 he was a faculty member of the music schools at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Community College.
He moved to Nelson in 2004 where in addition to hosting The Art and Times of the Guitar, a look at history, music, players and news from the world of the classical guitar on Kootenay Coop Radio (Tuesdays at 10 am and Mondays at 4pm on www.kootenaycoopradio.com) and teaching at the Nelson Academy of Music, he is on the Board of the Nelson and District Arts Council and the coordinator of the 19th Northwest Guitar Festival, a 3 day event which will be held in Nelson April 16-18, 2009.

Using water as metaphor, each participant will create a vessel for change, personal and/or collective.
With recycled materials and paint, mosaic tesserae adn assorted odd bits, we will adorn our vessels, which may be used indoors or in the garden.
FEE: $65.00 including all materials.
Bring a lunch - coffee, tea and juice will be provided.
Participants will join Karla for a weekend of art at the Kootenay Gallery.
In the morning, there will be a short nature walk around the gallery, returning to draw what they have seen. Karla will teach various drawing and shading techniques.
In the afternoon, children will create pieces of fabric art using tie-dying techniques.
Cost is $82.00 per child – includes all supplies.
