FlyerFRONTArchaeology Outreach Workshop with Ian Tamasi

Sunday April 26th at 11 am, Kootenay Gallery

This hour-long workshop begins with a talk describing basic archaeological terms and methods, while exploring the past 12,000 years of Human occupation within the Kootenay region of BC. This will be followed by a sandbox excavation where participants get a chance to simulate an archaelogical dig. It will followed up by their interpretation of what they have discovered and then placing the “finds” in an appropriate time sequence.

The event has been organized in conjunction with an up-coming art exhibition by Marianne Nicholson, titled the Rivers Monument. The exhibit opens at the Langham Gallery in Kaslo on April 17 and later at the Kootenay Gallery on June 19.

Thanks to the generousity of the Columbia Basin Trust, this workshop is free of charge.

It is geared toward youth in Grades 6 and 7, however not exclusively (it may be too advanced for younger ages).

Please register by contacting the gallery at 250 365-3337 or kootenaygallery@telus.net by 5:00 pm Friday, April 24.
