Canada Summer Student – Job Opportunity
Gallery Experience Assistant
Are you interested in working in a fun and artistic work environment? Kootenay Gallery of Art, History and Science Society is looking for a summer student to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Gallery. This position is open to students between the ages of 15-30 years. The candidate must:
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Please note that International students are not eligible for this funded position.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in the arts or education and will report directly to the Executive Director. Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with implementation of visual art exhibitions, including installations and strikes
- Supporting community engagement programs / workshop events / exhibition openings
- Liaising with regional artists
- Providing a welcoming environment
- Supporting and participating in summer arts camps for children and youth
- Performing gift shop inventory and sales
- Social media marketing
Assets:
- Interest in art education, studio art, and/or art history
- Interest and/or experience in community programming
- Interest and/or experience in event planning
- Strong social media skills
Hours – 37.5 hours per week for 16 weeks, Tuesdays to Saturdays, may include some weekends and evenings
Salary – $17.40 per hour
Start Date – May 5, 2025, or when suitable candidate has been identified
Some evening and weekend work may be required.
