We’re Hiring: Gallery Gift Shop Coordinator

Location: Castlegar, BC

Compensation: $23–$25/hour
Reports To: Executive Director

This full-time position is at the heart of our gallery—connecting visitors with local art, supporting exhibitions and events, and coordinating the day-to-day operations of our vibrant gift shop. If you’re detail-oriented, personable, and excited about arts and culture, we’d love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

Gift Shop Operations

  • Provide a warm, professional welcome to all guests as the first point of contact.
  • Manage sales, inventory, and merchandise sourcing, with a focus on local artists and artisans.
  • Operate POS systems and handle daily transactions.
  • Design creative and seasonal product displays.
  • Track and report sales trends to support retail strategy.
  • Work with artists and curators to coordinate safe handling and display of artworks.

Gallery & Program Support

  • Welcome and inform guests about current and upcoming exhibitions.
  • Help maintain clean and organized gallery spaces.
  • Monitor visitor conduct to ensure safety and protect artwork.
  • Assist with exhibition installs/deinstalls, workshops, and events.

 Administrative & Visitor Services

  • Use MS 365 and accounting software (Sage) to organize tasks and records.
  • Manage phone, email, and in-person visitor inquiries with professionalism.
  • Schedule meetings, take minutes, and assist with report and grant writing.
  • Maintain accurate records for inventory and consignment items.
  • Support fundraising, promotions, and exhibition openings.
  • Update social media, website, and printed materials with current gift shop and gallery info.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Executive Director and Curator.
  • Ensure safety and accessibility standards are met.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 2 years post-secondary education in business administration, arts management, or related field.
  • Experience in retail, gallery/museum environments, or arts organizations.
  • Strong merchandising, marketing, and visual display knowledge.
  • Confidence using POS systems, inventory software, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with social media and basic graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe).
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
  • Positive, friendly, and professional attitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • A clear criminal record check is required upon hire.
