Celso has performed on concert stages internationally for over 40 years; throughout North America, Europe and Asia. In fact, he just finished touring in Hungary, Slovakia, Mexico, Atlin BC, and Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean – 700 kilometres east of Madagascar.

While Celso’s music is rooted in Brazilian rhythmic and melodic styles, it also reflects his incurable fascination with other world music traditions.

He won the 2008 Canadian Folk Music Award for World Solo Artist of the Year, a Leo Award for best original music score for documentary, was nominated for four JUNO Awards in the world music category and another Leo Award for a documentary film score.

CELSO hi-resThe remainder of the season will feature a wide range of musical performers and styles including the Selkirk College Faculty Kordis Jazz Trio, the Baroque fanfare of the Vancouver Symphony trumpet/organ duo of Marcus Goddard and Ellen Ay-Laung Wang as well as local performers including the Selkirk Camerata strings and bluegrass master Craig Korth. Also featured this season are emerging artists Natasha Hall, violin and Nina Horvath, piano who will be joined by clarinettist Nicola Everton and narrator Bessie Wapp for the devilishly saucy theatre piece, “The Soldier’s Tale” by  Igor Stravinsky.

The Kootenay Gallery Concert Series wishes to thank its  generous sponsors for the season, TD Bank, Columbia Basin Trust and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance.
